Visiting UTFPR in Brazil with Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Programme

Our college, Dr. Árpád Huszák attended Erasmus+ teaching mobility at Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR) in Brazil provided an excellent opportunity to deliver practice-oriented education on autonomous vehicle systems and intelligent transport systems (ITS), with a special focus on reinforcement learning methods. Separate courses were held for BSc students and for combined MSc/PhD groups introducing theoretical foundations with hands-on sessions, enabling students to directly apply their newly acquired knowledge. Participants showed outstanding interest and active engagement, and asked numerous thoughtful questions after the lectures. Beyond teaching, the visit aimed to explore future professional collaborations in the fields of ITS and applied machine learning. Discussions with faculty at the host institution outlined several joint research directions, especially regarding the utilisation of ITS data. Both sides expressed openness to preparing collaborative research proposals and scientific publications.
The visit was built on a former connection, as Dr. Lincoln Teixeira, our earlier PhD student returned to Brazil after his successful defense, and this existing relationship was used to extend our future professional cooperation.
Overall, the mobility significantly contributed to strengthening institutional ties and laying the foundations for sustainable international collaboration.
