INFOCOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALISATION (Computer Engineering)
Networks and their services play a central role in numerous aspects of our lives, with artificial intelligence increasingly gaining prominence in almost every field. Data traffic within networks typically comprises various types, such as web browsing, streaming, and file sharing. Each of these traffic types has unique requirements for service quality across multiple performance parameters, including bandwidth, latency, and packet loss, as well as demands on network resources. When these requirements are not met, the quality, usability, and reliability of the network and its services diminish. Consequently, intelligent network and service management is critical for operating one of our most essential infrastructures, ensuring its quality and reliability in our daily lives.
The aim of the specialisation is to prepare future engineers and researchers by equipping students with the knowledge and skills to understand and apply cutting-edge technologies. This includes the principles of measuring networks and their services, modern data-driven analysis of their state, as well as related protocols, standards, performance metrics, and machine learning-based methods. Special emphasis is placed on groundbreaking technologies and paradigms such as network function virtualization and programmable control and data planes, which, when combined with machine learning applications, foster innovation and development in information and telecommunications. Beyond presenting foundational technologies, introducing modern data engineering tools, and facilitating real-time data processing and transformation, the specialisation also focuses on the feedback and practical application of the generated data. This comprehensive approach provides a thorough understanding of the operation of networks and the services they support.

INTELLIGENT NETWORKS SPECIALISATION (Electrical Engineering)
Today, the high level of interoperability provided by networks is a vital part of all IT infrastructures, a fundamental component. However, the evolution of telecommunications has not stopped today due to the ever-expanding areas of applications and their increasingly complex requirements. The components of telecommunication systems are undergoing revolutionary changes, becoming multidisciplinary, and forming a complex mix of advanced mobile/wireless infrastructures, cloud services, network operations, location methods, and performance analysis. Focusing on cutting-edge solutions, the Intelligent Networks specialization will expose students to the key technologies and concepts that are expected to lead the global network ecosystem of the near future. Students graduating from this specialization will acquire up-to-date, time-tested, scientific-based, practical knowledge of network-integrated complex IT systems, their design, and operation. In each course, students will gain in-depth knowledge of the latest developments in networking, learn about the latest technologies in wireless communications, and acquire a pervasive understanding of the entire functional network architecture, from IoT cloud-based digital service environments through radio positioning implementations to different types of modern mobile networks (e.g., 5G/6G cellular, DSRC/WiGig/WiHD) and integrated network operation systems. This is complemented by an in-depth knowledge of performance modeling and its application methods for network design and efficient operation. In addition to the lectures, students will work on solving network design, analysis, operation, optimization, and modeling problems in the practical sessions and deepen their knowledge of advanced mobile and wireless architectures and cloud services by performing measurements in the laboratory courses of the specialization.
